When I get Older, I want to go …

🎶When I get older … 🎶 I want to go flying like Jo Reed on her 90th birthday.

At least, I want to do something that I enjoyed doing when I was younger. For Jo Reed at 18, it was going up with her brother in a British Tiger Moth biplane.

Jo said those flights were “magical” experiences for her.

“You know, open cockpit and the wind rushing by,” Jo said.

“Then he’d do aerobatics to see if he could get me to scream. But I didn’t scream for him, so it wasn’t much fun for him …  It’s like going on a roller-coaster.”

Like going on a roller-coaster. For me, what would it be?

I once went white water rafting down the Ottawa River. To be truthful, I didn’t know what I was getting into when I signed up. Someone in the gang said “Let’s go rafting!” and I said “Sure” thinking about bamboo rafting as I knew it.

It’s a three hour drive to the rafting site and I’d dozed off in the car. I woke up to feel of the car slowing down and the distant roar of something sounding like a freight train.

“Look at that!” my friend said.

Not what I was expecting.

At least I wasn’t the only clueless person the group. One woman backed out at the last minute. “I can’t swim!” she said. Little did she know that swimming wouldn’t make a difference in this kind of water.

As it turned out, the ride was a hoot. It was wet, wild and wonderful. And the best part? It was jumping out of the raft and body surfing the rapids. Swimming be damned!

🎶 When I get older at ninety years old … will I go rafting down the river grand? 🎶

We’ll just have to wait and see 🙂
