Seasons Greetings

On this side of the hemisphere, old man winter is raising havoc with the weather. On Vancouver Island, artic blasts have created unprecedented snow and chilly temperatures. I’m not there now but my neighbor sent me a video of the coast smothered with snow. I can’t share the video but to illustrate …

This is what the coastal view should look like

… and this is what does look like.

Vancouver-ites are not used to this volume of snow. The news is flooded with reports of closed highways, cancelled ferries and airport chaos. Amongst all that gloom, one innovative cyclist had a unique solution to plowing through the snow covering bike lanes in Victoria.

His motivation for all that work? A craving for his favorite Vietnamese food!

Speaking about food cravings … what’s coming up for the festive feast days ahead? Will you have roast beef or baked ham? Or is it seafood on the barbie, Aussie style? Maybe crispy latkes and sugary sufganiyah? Or are you like me and planning to have it all?

Except maybe for the BBQ. Here in Toronto the forecast is for a major winter storm. We’ll see rain turning to ice turning to snow, with wind gusting up to 90 km/h. Wind chill is expected to be in the minus twenties. Flash freezing will produce icy and slippery surfaces. Bicycling and outdoor barbequing is not recommended.

Luckily, I did all my shopping yesterday and I will be burrowed in until Christmas Day. Tomorrow, I’ll start baking and keep on going until the big day πŸ˜‰

Wherever you are, whatever your plans and weather, I wish you and yours a Very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

  1. Brrrr! I’m glad your errands are done and you can stay warm inside, Sandy! My hubby requested deep dish pizza tonight, white chicken chili tomorrow and Italian cioppino for Christmas dinner. You know where to find meβ€” in the kitchen (my fave)! 😁 Merry Christmas to you!

    1. You hubby knows what he wants .. probably because he knows it’s all good! It’s dreadful outside but warm & cozy in my kitchen. In the oven is sourdough campagne, a fruit & nut loaf and chicken & mushroom pasta bake. We’re good πŸ™‚ Have a good holiday Terrie!

  2. I like the bicycle snowplow! I’m working Christmas Day, so no special activities or food this year, though we will no doubt eat well and stay warmer than most of the rest of the country! Happy holidays to you.
