re: Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge – Hands
I took this picture and included it in a post about the Buddhist Monks in Bagan. This and the blog set are my favorite photos of monks in South East Asia. Although spirituality is the first thing we think of with Buddhism, it’s their quotidian lives that I found most interesting. In this photo, the monks were assembling for their early morning prayers and alms collection. It was barely dawn and while the older monks were contemplative, the younger monks were relaxed and quietly laughing at some comment – similar to any assembly of juvenile boys. Whenever I see this photo, I recall the cool morning air, the rich colors and the early anticipation of a new day.
