There’s still one more week left for the Friendly Friday Challenge to post about any and all things PURPLE.
So far, there’s been great response to the PURPLE challenge. Thank you for participating and remember you can respond as much and as often, as you’d like. Keep them coming, I enjoy reading all the posts and comments.
In one of the comments, Tanya said her friend’s favorite color is purple while her’s is red. Isn’t that a striking color combination? It reminded me of the first time I saw the ladies of the Red Hat Society.
I was at a serious business conference doing serious business when a wave of color caught my eye. There amongst all the somber business suits were ladies dressed in fabulous purple with brilliant red hats and frothy feather boas. The red hats alone were unusual, headwear not being common in … anywhere outside of the Royal Ascott races (and even then, Red!) The ladies were all of an older age (50+) and were obviously having a night on the town. I remember mentally shaking my head (I was much younger then) and getting back to my seriously serious business.
Years later, I read about the Red Hat Society. It is a self-proclaimed playgroup for women fifty years and over, who get together to have fun, stay fit and enjoy friendships. The founder was inspired by the poem “Warning” written by Jenny Joseph.

When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
“Warning” by Jenny Joseph
Now that I’m at the magical age of 50+, I fully appreciate the wisdom of having fun and pursuing passions. Do I need a red hat to show it? Hmm. Would you?
For a little inspiration, here are the PURPLE posts from last week.

Oh my goodness! What a fabulous poem – I read the rest of it & I think I must start wearing purple now (it is my favorite colour but I do not have any purple items of clothing or accessories!)

It certainly is a popular topic, Sandy. I didn’t see Sarah’s post before and the ping here for her post didn’t work for me. Is it just my phone?
