Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Ice Cream

July 14th is National Macaroni & Cheese Day and to celebrate there is a new flavor of ice cream: Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Ice Cream.

Does that sound weird and horrible? While some journalists describe it as What Greets You at the Gates of Hell, others say it’s not so bad.

If you recall, in my previous post Oh So Canadian, I pointed out some interesting facts.

A Canadian invented the original Kraft Macaroni & Cheese

Canadians purchase 1.7 million boxes every year

Canadians consume 24% of the global production of Kraft Dinner worldwide

Canadians eat 50% more KD than Americans

We even have a song with a tribute to Kraft Dinner in โ€œIf I Had a Million Dollarsโ€ by the Canadian band, Bare Naked Ladies

Why then I wonder, is this limited-run Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Ice Cream ONLY available in the US?

I may have to start a petition to address this grievous oversight.

… right after I finish with the Heinz Hot Dog Pact. Have you heard of it? It protests the unfair practice of packaging Hot dog wieners in packs of 10 and Hot dog buns in packs of 8. It’s a shopping dilemma that’s plagued summer BBQs for years. It should be stopped. 10 Wieners. 10 Buns. It’s time.

    1. … and yet – it’s made of the same dairy ingredients; it has an ice cream appropriate color and has the potential balance of sweet, sharp & savory flavors !
Better this than the monstrosity of Octopus Ice Cream I once read about. Seafood & ice cream is my line in the sand.

      1. I guess that’s true Sandy, and I would certainly eat a cheesecake flavour ice cream. But I was assuming this would be savoury rather than sweet, and I’m also not keen on the taste of processed cheese. Totally with you on the octopus!!

    1. I don’t know. If I was in a Baskin & Robbins Ice cream shop I would take a tasting sample, just like I always do.
But then, just like I always do, I’d buy my favorite: Strawberry ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Apparently Cheese ice cream is not as unusual as we’d think. In Mexico and the Philippines they have queso and corn ice cream and in Spain there’s a Helado de Manchego. I wonder if cheese ice cream is rooted in Spanish food culture. What do you think?
