Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams skateboarded to the top of the charts after a TikTok video went viral. The video features a man, Nathan Apodaca gliding down a highway on his skateboard, drinking cranberry juice from the bottle while lip-syncing Stevie Nicks. In only three weeks, this simple video captured the imagination of viewers with over 41 million views and inspired tribute pieces by celebrities, laymen and politicians alike.

What’s the appeal? Is it the tasty goodness of Ocean Spray’s cranberry juice? Or maybe the free-wheeling vibe of cruising with Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams in the background? Certainly, the video’s put the iconic song back on the charts. Rolling Stones magazine listed it as #3 on the Top 100 Songs this week, with over 10 Million streams. An awesome comeback considering the song was originally released forty three years ago in 1977.

This week’s Friendly Friday Photo Challenge is to share stories and pictures inspired by DREAMS.

I’ve never tried skateboarding and I’m not really keen on cranberry juice but I do like the song. It reminds me of my university days when I shared an apartment with two older grad students. ‘Rumors’ was their favorite album and they played it on an old beat-up record player. It was housed in a plastic milk crate (remember those?) along with other vinyl classics by the Eagles, Foreigner and Crosby, Stills & Nash. It was the background music to many late night study sessions and chill-out weekends.

    1. Yes, the lopsided photo is a shot of the entrance to the University College building, which is part of the University of Toronto campus. This is one of earlier buildings, built in 1853 and modeled after Oxford & Cambridge universities in England. It’s a beautiful old building .

  20. It’s a nice song even though i’m not a fan of the band. These days you never know what will go viral… sure there’s something about this little video he made, just makes you think – “we’ll be ok” or “lets appreciate simple things in life more”…

  24. I can almost sing all the lyrics to this song.
    I must be of your vintage, Sandy. It brings back memories of the eighties, rundown rental flats with multicoloured paint on the walls, ugg boots, big hair and hot summer nights before air-conditioning became mainstrean in Australia; A band of no-hoper friends with guitars and a female lead singer modelling herself after Stevie Nicks. Wow, that takes me back. Thanks for the memory jog.

      What a great memory.. I can see it in my mind’s eye…
      Alll except the UGG boots which were a more recent fad here and reserved for the rich and fashionable set. But they originated from Australia, right.?

      1. Yes indeed, UGG is as Aussie as Meat Pie. Although the company was bought out by Americans or Chinese? And you weren’t rich to wear them they were cheap – it was only sheepskin, but oh so comfy.

          I never saw the appeal in them until I read that they were favored by surfers who appreciated the warmth on the beach. That doesn’t explain all those young things walking around downtown in the height of summer – they must have been exceedingly hot!
          I didn’t know Aussie’s like Meat Pie. You should write about that. If you do, I’ll write about the quintessential meat pie of my hometown. Deal?!
